Tiger Math vs Prodigy: Which Math Game Fits Your Child?
Compare Tiger Math and Prodigy by age, gameplay, free access and offline practice. A sourced parent guide to choosing a math game for your child.
Choose Prodigy if your child wants math practice within a fantasy adventure. Consider Tiger Math if you want focused activities for ages 6–12, including practice away from Wi-Fi. Those are different reasons to open an app, and either can matter more than the number of features on a product page.
This comparison is published by Tiger Math. It uses official product descriptions and support documentation checked on 2 October 2026, rather than a hands-on test of the latest apps. Recommendations reflect those documented differences; they are not a ranking of learning results.

Tiger Math details come from its App Store description. Prodigy describes its coverage, game mechanics and free educational content in its official game guide. Grade coverage is not equivalent to an age recommendation.
When Prodigy is the better fit
A child who already loves adventure games may want a reason to return to a character and a world. Prodigy's quests and battles provide that setting. Its grade range also extends beyond Tiger Math's stated target ages. If your child's teacher already uses Prodigy, ask what the teacher wants practised before introducing another tool.
The free educational questions matter when evaluating cost. A membership is not required to access those questions. Optional paid features should be considered separately from the math content, using the current offer displayed to your family. Prodigy explains this distinction in its game guide.
When Tiger Math is a useful Prodigy alternative
Sometimes the goal is specific: practise a multiplication table, work through a few fraction questions, or keep a familiar activity available on a trip. Tiger Math offers that type of practice, with parent reports and no required child account. Its listing says progress stays on the device and works offline. See the developer's App Store description.
That makes it an option to consider when looking for a Prodigy alternative for focused practice. It does not establish that a shorter activity teaches more than an adventure game. Choose a skill first, then observe whether your child understands the questions and can explain an answer after playing.
For travel, install and open your chosen app before leaving, then check the intended activity in airplane mode. Prodigy's website troubleshooting guidance calls for a functional internet connection; that guidance is not evidence about every mode of every app version. Our offline math games guide also includes activities without a screen.
Does research tell us which game teaches more?
No head-to-head evidence is cited here. A 2019 meta-analysis by Tokac, Novak and Thompson examined 24 studies of mathematics video games in PreK–12 education. It reported a small overall advantage over traditional instruction, with mixed results across studies. It does not establish superiority for either product.
Use that evidence as a reason to inspect how practice works, rather than treating game rewards as proof of learning. After playing, ask your child to solve a related problem on paper and explain their method. This is a suggested parent check, not a validated assessment or a schedule tested in the review.
